Process Paper
I chose my topic, The Invasion of Poland, because of my
interest in the topic. In my last year of middle school, we learned a lot about
World War II, so we did many projects on specific events that occurred. I had
written an informative speech about the Invasion, and had also read a
non-fictional book about the German’s occupation of Poland.
I was completely hooked on the subject, so I chose it as my topic for this
year’s History Fair.
This year I had a little trouble with research because my topic isn’t
very recent and most databases like Sirs have more recent events. But this year,
I found a great website that has plenty of information on events that happened
in Europe. It’s called Spartacus Educational; I
found most of my secondary sources from this website. I also found a great
web-page that had tons of photographs from the Invasion. This web-page was
helpful for finding primary sources for my project.
In previous years, I had used a website as the category for my History
Fair project. These past websites worked well and I received excellent grades on
them. Since I like to make power points and work well with computers, I have
always resorted to using the website. I also figured out the color scheme and
layouts create an atmosphere for the reader. Pictures help pull the reader in as
well. If I put a picture of a destroyed building, the readers will want to know
what happened and that helps hook the readers.
The topic of this year’s History Fair topic is a turning point in
history. My topic, The Invasion of Poland, relates to the topic because this
precise event was the start of World War II. Adolf Hitler planned to invade
Poland, so he persuaded the
Soviet Union to sign a non-aggression pact.
This increased his success rate plus he proposed to split Polandwith the Soviet
Union if they helped with the Invasion. When the Invasion started,
Britain and France declared war. This was a huge turning point in history because this was the start of World War II, one of the
bloodiest conflicts in history.
